long-term goals and channel their personality towards
achieving these goals.

How can I sign my teen up for
this program?

If there is an organization in your area offering PreVenture workshops, we will
connect you. If PreVenture is not currently available in your area and you are interested in bringing
PreVenture to your community, please contact us at info@preventureprogram.com.
We can provide you with a PreVenture informational booklet geared towards
organizations that have access to funding for substance use and mental health
programs, such as schools, community coalitions, youth hubs/centres, public health
units and health care/addiction centres to name a few.

PreVenture is an approved SAMHSA (US department of Health and Human Services,
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) evidenced-based prevention
program and eligible for Substance Abuse Block Grants (SABG).

We would be happy to introduce PreVenture through a video
conferencing platform and do a brief presentation followed by a
question and answer session.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to some of the more common
questions we get about PreVenture from parents.

How does the program avoid labeling?2022-11-30T15:30:34-05:00

The program is designed to allow teens to self report on their interests and preferences and subsequently, be matched with a workshop that is relevant to what they have reported. The results are strictly confidential. The only individuals with access to the results (with identifying information revealed) are the facilitators involved in delivering the program. Moreover, confidentiality is discussed at the beginning of each workshop. Teens are asked to agree to keep what takes place in the workshops confidential. Building trust is an essential component of the program.

My child was not selected for the program. Will they miss out on the benefits of this program?2022-04-05T21:35:25-04:00

In order to ensure a more intimate atmosphere of acceptance and non-judgement, there are a limited number of spots available in the workshops. The good news is research has shown PreVenture to have a herd effect. Students who do not attend the program but go to a school in which the program takes place receive the same protective benefits.

Is my child required to participate in the program?2022-06-14T13:55:14-04:00

No, participation in the program is completely voluntary.

Will I be required to pay for this program?2022-04-05T21:35:22-04:00

There is no cost to you as this program is provided via an investment in prevention made by your child’s school or a local community partner.

Is there research supporting the effectiveness of this program?2022-06-14T13:54:46-04:00

Yes! Multiple randomized controlled trials on PreVenture have shown the effectiveness of the program. PreVenture has been recognized as an evidenced-based program by leading authorities such as the US Surgeon General, UNESCO, UNDOC and the World Health Organization (WHO).

I am interested in PreVenture, but it is not currently offered at my child’s school. How can I encourage my child’s school to begin offering this program?2022-06-14T13:54:21-04:00

Please reach out to us at info@preventureprogram.com and we will provide resources and support to help you bring PreVenture to your community.

Is my consent required for my teen to participate in PreVenture?2022-11-25T13:26:57-05:00

Yes, anyone implementing the program, including screening, is required to obtain consent from the participant’s parents. Due to the nature of PreVenture, parents must be provided with adequate information regarding the program, its implementation, and any risks that may be involved.

Will my child be given a personality test?2022-06-14T13:56:54-04:00

No, in order to place your child in a group that is relevant and engaging to them, they are given a brief (24 question) questionnaire regarding their interests and preferences. Some sample questions teens are asked are:
1) I would like to drive a motorcycle
2) I have faith that my future holds great promise.
