A paper published today in The American Journal of Psychiatry demonstrated that PreVenture significantly reduces the risk of teens developing substance-use disorders. In a five- year study led by Dr. Patricia Conrod, involving 3,800 students in 31 high schools across Montreal, teens who received the brief cognitive behavioral program, PreVenture, were 23-80% less likely to transition to substance use disorders by grade 11, compared to the control group. Dr. Conrod’s extensive research highlights that while individual differences are essential to a healthy society, young people will turn to substances to reduce stress brought on by certain traits. PreVenture addresses these individual differences and equips teens with personality-focused coping strategies that protect them against the risk for substance use and abuse.
