Dr. Patricia Conrod led a study recently published in Scientific Reports that details the relationship between screen time and ADHD symptoms. The correlation is explained by the effects of screen time on neuropsychological and behavioral measures of impulsivity and executive functions. Notably, only social media was found to have a lasting influence, which suggests an enduring effect on teen’s behavior and mental health and highlights the need to identify measures to help young people better manage their susceptibility to social media harms.
